RED Creative Winner’s Placement

← Back to Blog

The other part of winning Cheltenham Fashion Week (CFW) was the chance to have a two-week work placement with George Davies and his team. The first week in London was my ‘RED Creative Winner’s Placement’ at their Photographic Studios and the second week in Draycott, ‘FG4’ Design Studios.

’RED Creative’ are a ‘unique set of designers and marketeers creating for the retail industry offering a full in-house service to cater to individual customers needs’. The team at RED include stylists, photographers, illustrators, make-up artists and more.

Week one, London

My first week, all expenses paid for, was at RED creative in London. I was in contact with the team the week before who arranged my accommodation and made sure that everything was ready for when I arrived. I was staying at a great hotel, which was across the road from the studios – perfect to just roll out of bed!

The studio was great! A huge open space with different areas for everyone from the photographers, camera man and his catwalk to the stylists desks and the styling wardrobe. It was in the styling studio where George, the studio manager showed me how to shoot shoes and accessories, which was really fun as I was able to work with all the equipment and have a go myself. The other areas ranged from sets dedicated to solelywhere garment shots. The images are then used on the brand websites like M&S – PerUna. There’s also the catwalk area where videos are taken to use on the website and promo materials. There was also a dedicated make-up station (a personal favourite of mine) where freelance MUAs created amazing looks for all of the models on the various shoots and videos taking place.

There is a professional process that happened from day to day at RED. To begin, the stylists have a certain number of items and they style these into outfits, dressing the models one outfit at a time. Each outfit is shot in detail and these images are then the images that we see used on websites, magazines, brochures etc!

Check back soon for the next instalment of my prize placement with RED!
